13 Ways To Make Your Bathroom Feel Luxurious

Generally speaking, people tend to assume that your bathroom needs to cost a lot of money for it to look luxurious.

But from personal experience, it’s not always about expensive tiling and over the top renovations, but doing the simple things really well.

When you go about the right ideas properly, you can easily achieve that luxurious look. So from my table, here are some ways you can make your bathroom look and feel luxe.

1. Make The Colour Palette Simpler for a Calm, High End Look

The biggest change you can make in your bathroom is using simple colors that complement each other and are easy on the eye. Too many colors make your space unnecessarily busy and we don’t want that.

Luxury bathrooms are often calm and consistent with colors and tones, this helps it flow naturally. Even items like towels and everyday accessories don’t feel like they’re disconnected but intentional.

Colors like light grey, soft white, beige, muted orange, etc, create a base and then other similar decor choice makes it look more polished.

2. Use Lighting to Create a Soft, Spa Like Glow

Avoid harsh overhead lighting in your bathroom, this cannot be overemphasized because it makes the space feel unfinished, stale, and cold, even when the decor is actually good.

When you switch to softer lighting, the space instantly feels more relaxing and inviting. The warm glow from wall sconces adds comforts and with that kind of ambience, simple everyday activities would feel a bit more special.

Simple lighting ideas you can utilize are:

  • Warm LED bulbs instead of the regular bright white ones
  • Wall lights like sconces close to the mirror
  • Small lamps in corners of the space allows for it

This lighting principle pretty much applies to other areas of the home as well.

3. Use Mirrors to Add Depth and Brightness

If you have a small bathroom and you want to just make it feel a little bit bigger, then mirrors are your best bet. Not only will it increase the size of your space but it makes it seem more expensive.

A large mirror that’s placed at the vantage point in the bathroom will often look more luxurious than several small ones placed randomly. It keeps the walls looking clean and adds depth by bouncing light around the room.

A large frameless mirror design makes the room modern and timeless, although a simple frame mirror works as well.

4. Replace Plastic Accessories with Coordinated Sets

It’s no secret that when it comes to interior design plastic is generally frowned on, this is because it cheapens the look of your space, especially if you want your bathroom to look high-end.

Swapping out plastics and replacing them with coordinated sets in ceramics, glass, or stone feels way more intentional. Even affordable options are preferable to plastic.

Soap dispensers, toothbrush holders, trays, etc, are some of the items in your bathroom you should try upgrading if you want to achieve that luxury feel.

5. Introduce Texture Through Towels and Fabrics

Texture is the secret sauce behind luxurious bathroom, and it seems to be gatekept because not many people are using it (correctly).

You can introduce depth into your bathroom without depending on bold colors or expensive decor through texture. Soft towels that are plush, instantly change the bathroom feel, even if you keep everything else simple.

Good texture makes the space feel catered for. Some ways to add texture affordably are:

  • Waffle or ribbed towels
  • Fabric shower curtain
  • Soft bath mat

Texture makes the room look and feel warm and inviting.

6. Declutter Surfaces to Let the Space Breathe

Luxury spaces are rarely ever cluttered, surfaces should be clear, clean and allow the eyes to rest while making the bathroom feel calmer.

Remove the extra items from your sink, shelves and floor, the room will slowly start to look bigger and smarter.

Your daily essentials like toothbrush, toothpaste, soap can be kept visible, but the other items that you don’t make use of can be stored away.

7. Add a Touch of Nature for a Relaxing Feel

Everybody loves nature, but most regular bathrooms almost never add a bit of it for any reason, which is why adding natural elements like plants can make your bathroom look spa-like.

Elements like wood, plants, stone, etc, bring the outside to the inside. They’re warm and balance out hard surfaces. It’s pure aesthetics only, and it doesn’t take much for it to work.

Budget-friendly natural touches you can add to your bathroom include:

  • A small plant or dried stems
  • Wooden trays or stools
  • Woven Baskets

Nature always adds a kind of calm that comes without clutter.

8. Swap Standard Hardware for Elevated Finishes

The most overlooked part of most luxurious bathrooms is the hardware, but when you compare it to most average bathroom decor, it’s basically night and day.

Drawer pulls, towel hooks, toilet roll holders, etc, can be changed for a better, cleaner, and more high-end looking appeal affordably.

Options like brushed brass, matte black, and warm chrome are go-to options to keep the finishing consistent and help everything feel cohesive.

9. Style Open Shelves with Purpose and Balance

Open shelving can either be quite messy or very beautiful, depending on whether it’s done properly or not. The luxury part of it does come with a lot of restraint.

Limit your shelves to having just a few items and give each item room to breathe. Group your items by materials, color, or functional similarity (e.g toothbrush and toothpaste).

Use decorative items that are both aesthetic and functional so that your shelves can feel styled but still very practical.

10. Use Trays to Organize and Elevate Everyday Items

Trays are like the unsung heroes when it comes to decorating a bathroom, especially if you’re on a budget and want your space to be luxe. They instantly add a bit of importance to everyday items.

Putting items on a tray reduces clutter visually, and makes things structured. As a bonus, it also makes your bathroom easier to clean.

Trays works great for:

  • Soap and skincare products
  • Candles and small decor items
  • Guest towels

This details, regardless of how small adds polish to your space and makes it look luxurious.

11. Choose Minimal Decor with Visual Weight

Funny how this works, but in a bathroom, less decor actually comes out looking more luxurious. One medium to larger strong piece works many times better than several small ones. Less is more, literally.

A sculptural vase, candles, a single framed print, etc, can anchor the space and refine your bathroom look without overwhelming it.

Visual weight makes your decor feel way more intentional; it doesn’t matter if the bathroom is small.

12. Create a Cohesive Look with Matching Details

Consistency is the language that luxury speaks, when everything works together, the space feels thoughtful and intentionally designed. I’m talking colors, finishes, materials, etc, that work together.

Matching accessories, towels and hardware creates harmony and things won’t just feel as though they were thoughtlessly thrown together. Nothing stands out the wrong way.

You should note that this does not mean that everything must be identical or matching, but things have to feel like they belong together.

13. Add Subtle Scent for a Full Sensory Experience

Luxury is not just about how your space looks and feels, but also how it smells. Scent plays a huge role when it comes to determining how luxe your space is.

And no! It’s not enough for your bathroom to smell like the soap and lotion you use on a daily basis. A subtle unique fragrance can make your bathroom feel welcoming and leave a good impression if you welcome visitors.

Simple ideas for scents are:

  • Scented candles
  • Red diffusers
  • Light essential oil sprays

My tip for you is, don’t go overboard, keep it soft, clean and simple, not overpowering the whole room, that feels forced.

What Else is There?

A luxury bathroom really doesn’t need a big spend if you know what you’re doing. A some smart choices here and there, and small upgrades that work great together.

Luxury is intention above everything, and that’s something you can achieve with any budget. Hope you loved the article, kindly share and I’ll see you again in the next one.

Thanks.
